The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain

A depiction of Purgatory by Hieronymus Bosch

so love, which is a spiritual motion

fills the trapped soul, and it can never rest

short of the thing that fills it with devotion

- Dante (Alighieri), The Purgatorio, Canto XVIII, lines 30-33

I was struck by this in reading from The Purgatorio this morning.  Virgil is explaining what all-encompassing Love is to Dante, and it is beautiful to watch the growth of his understanding and character--as I do myself while reading.
