Peter and the Wolf

After exchanging some text messages with a good friend earlier, the following quote heading up wikiquote.org caught my eye and seemed poignant:

Spring Break was a mountain of stress and work. Cycles of encouragement, doubt, discouragement, rest, restlessness. One of the times I set aside for absolutely no work was Wednesday night at 8:00 when the local HD PBS station played the new stop-motion animated version of Peter and the Wolf.



I am glad that I set aside the time to watch it. I had heard that it was something special, with it taking in some recent wards, an Oscar for the best animated short film among them. At the same time, I was excited and skeptical at the outset. After watching, I felt like I simply needed to watch it again before proceeding to make final judgments (which isn't such a hard task as it is merely 30 minutes long).

What stood out to me, though, in a very clear way, was how exceedingly well the vision of comparing Peter with the Wolf itself was pulled off. I saw it in the eyes, the glare that Peter gives in some shots, and sometimes it is done hauntingly well. Give it a watch.

I left all of my Layout & Design files up at Taylor, so there was no hope for catching up at the outset. Even if I had transferred the files, I was completely stricken with work and antiwork. That does mean, however, that I have more to show soon. Hopefully.
